Cradles to Crayons

Looking for a way to give back to the community?  Cradles to Crayons is a Boston-based organization that provides children from birth to age 12, living in low- income and homeless situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. They supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.

Here are some details on a great program that they have, sort of their own twist on a giving tree.  Please see the link below if you would like more information or to get involved. http://cradlestocrayons.org/boston/givebackoutfitpack

This is our version of the holiday “Giving Tree”, but instead of a new toy for a child, we’re asking that you help a child stay warm this winter by buying new outfits that are just his or her size and will make him or her look great at school, at home, or at play.

Need: We will receive orders for a week’s worth of matched outfits for 17,000 individual boys and girls this winter alone. For example, Anya is 6 years old and recently arrived at a shelter with her mother because her home was not safe. Because they had to leave in a hurry, Anya arrived with only the clothes on her back. The shelter provided her with a change of clothes but not enough to last a week. Anya was embarrassed when she had to wear the same shirt to kindergarten all week.

A week’s worth of outfits for a child includes:

  • 2 pairs of pants

  • 4 shirts

  • 1 sweater/sweatshirt

  • 1 pair of pajamas

  • Package of socks

  • Package of underwear

  • Accessories

Your Impact: You can make a difference for Anya and other local boys and girls this winter with your Outfit Pack.

Ideas: Make this a shopping trip with your kids and a discussion about giving back. Make it a competition at work to see who can find the cutest outfits or help the most children. Or do it on your own by adding extra items to your shopping cart at your favorite retailer (or e-tailer and ship the items directly to Cradles to Crayons). It’s a fun and meaningful way to spread the joy of the holidays.
