Family Fun Day - Sat., June 9th!

It's that time of year again! The MMC invites you and your family to join us for our annual Family Fun Day!

The MMC will supply the hot dogs, burgers (and veggie burgers), drinks and ice cream.  We ask you to bring a side or a dessert to share.  The cost is $20 per family.  Bring a non-perishable food item or diapers to contribute to our food/diaper drive and receive $2 off your admission.

There will be live music by Brian Doser and crafts for the kids.  ALSO, have your children bring their favorite teddy or doll to our Teddy Bear Clinic for a check up!

We look forward to seeing you and celebrating the beginning of summer!

Recipes from our March 2012 Heavenly Hor D’Oeuvres Event

These recipes were such a hit that we wanted to share them with those of you who were unable to make this awesome event.  Bon appetit!

Stuffed Mushrooms

12-15 large mushrooms cleaned and stems removed (do not discard)

1/2 stick butter

2 TBS chopped shallots

1 garlic clove chopped

1 Cup mushroom stems chopped

4 slices cooked bacon, chopped

2 TBS minced parsley

1/4 Cup black olives

1/4 Cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 - 3/4 Cup bread crumbs

2-4 TBS dry cooking sherry

 

Preheat oven to 350F.

Saute mushroom stems with butter, shallots and garlic on medium low heat until tender. Set aside.  In a pot of boiling water add mushroom caps for a count to ten.  Quickly remove and dry on paper towels inside and out.  

In another bowl mix mushroom stems, bacon, Parmesan cheese, parsley and bread crumbs. One TBS at a time add sherry and blend with a fork until mixture is moist and stuffable.  

Set mushrooms on an oiled cookie sheet or pan.  Stuff mushrooms with a healthy amount of stuffing.  Top with additional Parmesan cheese and bake for 20 minutes.

*Bacon can be omitted if desired or replaced with crabmeat.

*Feta or goat cheese can also be added to the mushroom stuffing in place of our in addition to the chopped bacon.

*Olives may also be omitted if preferred.

 

Shrimp Terrell's

10-15 clean large prawns (biggest shrimp you can find)

1 Block jalapeno cheese

1 Cup BBQ Sauce

1 Jalapeno pepper, thinly sliced

7-10 slices of uncooked bacon

toothpicks or skewers

 

Devein prawns if needed.  Make a deep cut the length of the prawn, making sure to not cut prawn all the way through.  This is just to make a large enough pocket for a thin jalapeno slice and thick slice of cheese. 

Wrap outside with bacon slice and secure with tooth pick or slide down a skewer.

Once you have all of your prawns stuffed and wrapped, brush BBQ sauce on all sides. 

Place on the BBQ for five minutes or so (until prawns are pink and bacon looks cooked). 

Serve warm.

*Smoking chips can be used on your grill to add a smokiness to the shrimp if desired.

 

Crazy Meatballs

2 lbs hamburger 

1c breadcrumbs 

2 eggs beaten

1 pkg Lipton onion soup mix

1 can sauerkraut (rinsed once)

1can whole cranberries in cranberry sauce

1jar chili sauce

1c brown sugar

 

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Mix first 4 ingredients and roll into bite-size meatballs.  Place in 9x12 pan.

In separate bowl mix last four ingredients and pour over meatballs.

Bake 1 1/2 hours stirring once after an hour and again when done (I like to cover with foil for first hour, then take it off). 

Serve on Large platter or bowl with tooth picks.

 

 

Peach Crostini with arugula and pistachios

1 baguette

1 garlic clove cut in half

2-3 ripe peaches

small amount of peach juice

1 log goat cheese

1/2 cup chopped pistachios

one lime

1 bunch baby arugula

olive oil

Sea salt and Pepper

 

Slice bread on bias.  Brush with olive oil on each side.  Place in oven and broil on each side until light brown, paying attention not to burn. 

While still hot, lightly rub garlic on one side of the bread. Top each piece of bread with goat cheese and a couple slices of peaches.  Place on platter.

Combine peach juice, squeezed lime juice and a small amount of olive oil in a bowl.  Add arugula to bowl & toss gently.

Once your bread has been topped with the goat cheese and peaches top with dressed arugula and sprinkle with pistachios.

*Other seasonal fruits such as pears could be substituted for the peaches if preferred.

 

Puff Pastry Bites

Filling options:

*Caramelized onion and gorgonzola

*Black forest ham, dijon mustard and Gruyere

*Pesto, tomato and goat cheese

 Caramelized Onion and Gorgonzola Puff Pastry Bites:

1 large onion, thinly sliced

Olive oil

TBS brown sugar

1 clove of minced garlic

Preheat oven to 375F.  In a large skillet sauté one large onion that has been thinly sliced with olive oil. After onions have cooked for a few minutes add a TBS of brown sugar and one clove of minced garlic.

Cook over med low heat until onions are golden brown and soft. Add a pinch of salt and pepper.

Cut puff pastry into squares and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  Brush with melted butter or egg wash  Spoon onion mixture into the middle of pastry leaving 1/2 inch border. Top with crumbled gorgonzola.  Bake for 10-12 minutes or untll pastry is light brown on edges.

 

Black Forest Ham, Dijon Mustard and Gruyere Puff Pastry Bites:

1/2 lb black forest deli ham sliced thin

1/4 C Dijon mustard

2 C shredded gruyere cheese

Preheat oven to 375F.  Cut puff pasty into squares and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment. Brush edges with butter or egg wash.

Brush mustard in the center of the square. Top with layer of ham and sprinkle of cheese.  Bake 10-12 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and edges are golden brown.

Pesto, Tomato and Goat Cheese Puff Pastry Bites:

1 pint cherry tomatoes cut in half

1 log goat cheese

1/2 C pesto

Pine nuts

 

Preheat oven to 375F. 

Cut puff pasty into squares and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment. Brush edges with butter or egg wash.

Brush pesto in the center of the square. Top with sliced cherry tomatoes.

Bake 8 minutes then add goat cheese crumbles on top. Return to oven and bake 3-5 minutes until edges are golden brown. Sprinkle with pine nuts and serve warm or room temperature

We're Going on a Frog Hunt!

Please join us on our next children's event, a Trail Walk and Frog Hunt on
May 10, 2012 at 3:30PM. RSVP to the Evite or just meet us there.

Join us for a walk in the woods along the Agassiz Rock trail to learn about the woods around us and see the view from the top. We'll discover what lives in a vernal pool, hunt for frogs, and learn what exactly is a glacial anomaly.
Agassiz Rock is a mellow 1 mile loop trail with a lot to discover for young explorers. Please keep in mind that, while it will be a mild challenge for little walkers, it is not accessible with a stroller. Bug repellent, a water bottle and snack to enjoy while we explore the overlook are recommended.

Plant Sale this Sat., May 5th

Please join us for the Manchester Mothers Club Annual Plant and Bake Sale in front of Manchester's Town Hall from 9:00 to 1:00pm on Saturday, May 5th. A variety of annuals and perrenials will be avaialble along with an assortment of tasty baked goods. Proceeds will benefit the Open Door Food Pantry in Gloucester. The sale will take place rain or shine.

Save the Date! MMC 'Rockstar' Auction - Sat., March 31st

It's like no other auction!

This year, in celebration of our rockstar moms, we challenge everyone to dress as their favorite rockstar! There is no such thing as over the top!  Prizes will be awarded in several categories.  Dress for success or come as you are!

Our village of rockstars has donated amazing auction items to help support the Manchester Mothers' Club programs and charities.  Some of the auction items include fitness classes, outdoor adventures, spa treatments, day camps, dinner out, an all inclusive child's birthday party, jewelry and much more!  Our evening will also feature an open bar and a dessert bar filled with Cape Ann's finest treats.

Please join us Saturday, March 31st, from 7:30-11:00 at the Trask House for this great event.  It's sure to be an exciting evening for all with great auction items to bid on, tasty treats and libations.  Funds raised at this event go directly back into the community, helping to finance beloved local traditions such as Music in Masconomo and the 4th of July Fireworks display.

While this is an MMC event, feel free to bring a friend along; the more the merrier!  So please check your inbox and your mailbox for the invite.  You can pick your ticket(s) up in advance at a discount or purchase them at the door.

Annual Pancake Breakfast - Sat., Dec 3rd 

What better way to kick off the morning of the Jingle Bell walk then with the annual Holiday Pancake Breakfast!  This event, sponsored by the MMC, goes toward the Manchester-Essex Regional Highschool scholarship given by our club to a deserving senior.     The Breakfast is held at the Landing Restaurant (7 Central Street) from 8:00a.m.-10:00a.m.
 
Along with the delicious pancakes there will be some live music for the kids and a lot of fun.  Breakfast for adults is $9.00 and children under 13 are $5.00 (kids under 2 are free).   Enter to win  the 50/50 raffle as well.  All proceeds go to the scholarship fund!!

Jingle Bell Walk - This Sat., Dec 3rd!

Please join us next Saturday, Dec. 3rd, at 1 p.m. for our annual Jingle Bell Walk!

Santa will arrive by lobster boat at Masconomo Park at 1 p.m. and lead the children on a Jingle Bell Walk to Singing Beach.  The parade will end at the Manchester Community Center, where festivities will follow until 3 p.m.  This year, we will again have the popular outdoor petting zoo for children to enjoy, as well as crafts and face-painting.  Everyone will have an opportunity to meet Mrs. Claus and to take photos with Santa!  Refreshments will be served.  Make sure to bundle the little ones up as it could be chilly.  Come join us for an afternoon of fun!(Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the Manchester Community Center and the Manchester Mothers’ Club.)
