Play Group for Children Ages 3-5 at Manchester Memorial

Parents of children ages 3-5 are invited to register for Music, Books, and More with Lisa Cheney, a weekly play group.  This group is targeted to all preschool age children, including those not currently enrolled in the Manchester-Essex Regional Preschool. 

What:  Music, Books and More! with Lisa Cheney

A music & movement story time for parents and children ages 3-5.  This playgroup  emphasizes literacy, cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. Learn about your child’s development while you play, move, explore instruments, sing, read and have fun together.

When: Fridays, September 12-December 19, 8:45am –9:30am

LEGO Engineering FUNdamentals

Ages 7-11 - Manchester-Essex High School - $140.00

Power up your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGOs! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer designed projects such as arch bridges, skyscrapers, motorized cars, and the Battletrack! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level. This club is designed for children ages 7-11.

 Chess Club during the summer!!! This Chess Club will give students the opportunity to develop their thinking skills in an intellectually challenging environment. All levels of play are welcome. Come and try your hand at the classic, dynamic game of Chess. This club will meet for three weeks in the High School Library and is taught by our favorite 7th grade teacher, Mr. Stefanek. Junk Festival at Boston Children's Museum - July 27th

Hooray for Junk! We will be honoring junk on July 27th from 11am-4pm at Boston Children’s Museum! Come make something with junk, watch and listen to something awesome being played on junk, buy some Museum junk to take home, or make some noise in our junk sound garden! 

JUNK: old or discarded articles that are considered useless or of little value. 
The Museum's definition of JUNK: fabulous objects that can be used to make any and everything!
What will be happening during our Junk Festival?
•Scrapkins from Brooklyn, NYC will be creating a collaborative “Junk Re-Thunk Monster!” 
•Extras for Creative Reuse will be collaborating with us to do our second Pop-Up Recycle Shop and they will be leading workshops using all their recycled goodies. 
•Local artist and musician Adam Schutzman will be performing with some of his awesome junk instruments and leading a junk instrument making workshop.
•Duck That, a local improve trio where everybody plays game calls, the little plastic toys that hunters use to make animals come, will be performing. 
•Local artist Anthony Palocci Jr. will be making a HUGE collaborative sculpture out of cardboard.
•Our Museum Junk Sound Garden will be outside on the boardwalk to make some music with! 
•Museum Yard Sale

Author of Mothers and Daughters at Manchester by the Book: Sunday, July 20th @6pm

Author Katie Hafner is coming to Manchester By the Book this Sunday, July 20th, at 6 p.m. to talk about her book Mothers and Daughters. It's a really well regarded book and she is a really well known author, having worked as a journalist for such heavy hitters as the New York Times and Newsweek. It should be a lot of fun. Snacks and drinks provided.

Pack a picnic, bring the family, and enjoy an evening of summertime music on the Grand Allee. Try the family Eye Spy, featuring statuary and architecture – and don't miss the weekly raffle and membership promotion! Let our lawn be your summertime playground.

Tickets available at the gate only. Gates open at 5PM for picnicking. Concerts start at 7PM and end at 9PM.

Castle Hill offers the following picnic concert vendors for your convenience:

  • Popcorn, nuts, candy, water, and soda by Q’s Nuts.
  • Ice cream and pizza by White Farms Italian Pizza. Pre-order pizza: 978.412.4138. A limited number of pizza slices available on-site without advance order.
  • Picnic suppers by Ferreira Foods, exclusive caterer of the Castle Hill Cafe. Pre-order sandwiches and salads by 2PM Wednesday at Ferreirafoods@gmail.com or 617.388.6877. Menu available at ferreirafoods.net. A limited number of picnic items available on-site without advance reservations.
  • Ipswich Ale Brewery and Mill River Winery will sell beer and wine to people with positive identification at the Beer & Wine Garden, located partway down the Grand Allee. You may enjoy your drink within the Garden perimeter, but alcoholic beverages will not be permitted to leave the Garden. Picnic blankets and chairs are encouraged. Sorry, we can now longer allow BYOB.
